Well its been a moment since we last saw Maren Morris, well 2017 to be more specific. In that time she has released a couple more albums, had a baby, got married, had a couple of number 1s, won a Grammy and still found time to be one quarter of supergroup The Highwomen to boot.
I reviewed that show back in 2017 and every word stands true. A powerhouse singer who you feel would fill the room with that voice without the need of any amplification. With two more albums under her wing the set is fleshed out and there’s tracks from across all three records but the bulk comes from her excellent debut ‘Hero’. We are also treated to a new song being played for the first time too.
The background staging is a mystical forest with trees and bushes camouflaging the rhythm guitarist and drummer and its beautifully lit through out. The band are tight and there’s some nice harmonies from all of them but its Maren that keeps the audience rapt with that astounding voice and of course the gold sparkly outfit.
A word for the UK country fans who never cease to amaze me with their passion and voices. Thankfully unlike some shows where the crowd often drown the artist throughout every song, Morris soared above them to deliver a barnstorming performance.
It’s a perfect ninety-minute set, well paced and balanced between ballads and belters. Highlights too many to mention but ‘I Wish I Was’ and ‘All my Favourite People’ with hubby Ryan Hurd joining the band on stage were particularly good as of course was set closer ‘My Church’ and the Forum congregation were in strong voice to end the show.
Strike this down as a solid gold five star gig and a must see whenever she comes to town.
Keep on country rockin’ y’all.
