Thursday 5th May. Under the Bridge. The Long Ryders. Apologies for another short review It’s the three amigos again for what is hoped to be a more sedate night than what Stamford Bridge saw on Monday and we certainly took the average age of the audience down by a few years.

It’s the reunion tour for a band whose heyday was the eighties. Lead vocals are shared amongst the three front members of the band with Sid Griffin taking the lions share. Despite its location Under the Bridge is a fine venue with good sightlines, sound and lights.

The Long Ryders have a fine repertoire of songs and they certainly wear their influence on their sleeves from The Beatles, Quo and the Byrds. It’s a whistle stop rocking good set all building up to the classic Looking for Lewis and Clark which has the whole crowd bursting into song.

A great night with a great band and look forward to seeing them in another twenty years on the wheelchair ramp as Griffin puts it.

Keep on rockin y'all

Tuesday 3rd May. 100 Club. Phil Cook. Apologies for the short review for this one. It’s the three amigos who haven’t all been to the same gig together for some time tonight.

Got to the venue in time to see most of the set of The Dead Tongues whose new album is excellent. (Thanks Mart/Gav). Then it’s onto Phil Cook.

We saw him supporting Hiss Golden Messenger recently and was impressed and he followed that up with one of the best albums of last year. The set draws from that album plus a bunch of covers and its rocking good stuff.

It’s a good sound and the interplay between Cook and the keyboardist is exceptional trading licks and supporting harmonies. The sound is firmly seventies California but with a contemporary edge.

They are clearly having a blast and humbled to be here. It’s a great night from start to finish.
Keep on rockin y'all
