They are over here promoting their album ‘By Blood’ and this obviously takes over large parts of the set. It’s certainly a grower of an album that’s gets better and better on each listen. Its all killer and no filler tonight and between songs banter is banished in favour of storming though 21 songs.
There’s an intensity to the show with these two performers, whose gaze doesn’t leave the other throughout the show, switching between foot stompin heavy rocking blues ala White Stripes to the delicacy of a simple stunning acoustic cover of Neil Young’s ‘Unknown Legend’.
Unlike the static light show of Sturgill a couple of nights ago, I think the use of lights tonight was spot on (no pun intended). It added to the theatre to each track and lifted the undressed stage. The new songs more than hold their own but for me the highlights are a couple of oldies ‘O Be Joyful’ and my favourite track ‘Hail Hail’ which really gives them an opportunity to rock it up a notch too.
A breath-taking show from these two fine musicians who never fail to deliver a stunning set.
Keep on country foot stompin rockin y’all
