When I first started this little exercise we were a month into lockdown on the 24th April. Like most of you I expected this to last a month or two. The reality now is clear and sadly it will be a full twelve months and probably a lot more between my last gig and the next one. I will be surprised if I am seeing any live music again before June.
We go again and hopefully this brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Just a couple today for my look back trip down memory lane.
2018, the Lone Bellow, Village Underground, London
Another top show for this great band whose three part harmonies are some of the best around. Despite my dislike of the venue they overcome my prejudices and helped me forget them with another wonderful show reviewed here at the time.
1992, American Music Club, University of London, London
An oldie and a rare visit for the three amigos to the University of London student union to see the wonderful American Music Club touring probably the ‘Everclear’ album and just before ‘Mercury’. I am sure John will correct me but I think the Rockingbirds were the support band. This is also the only time I have seen them live which is a mystery and a travesty.
Of course they are not the most uplifting band but it’s a fine night of melancholic Americana.
Don’t forget, support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
