With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Just the two today to end the month for today’s trip down memory lane for you down the years.
2018, Pixies, Roundhouse, London
All Hallows special with the reformed Pixies. Wasn’t going to miss this one as they were playing the whole of Surfer Rosa and Come on Pilgrim. Of course there’s a fair amount of old timers who saw them the first time around but it’s nice to share this experience with Alex and his girlfriend. They’ve still got it and the memories of those old shows come flooding back and I reviewed it here at the time.
2012, Django Django, Heaven, London
From the remnants of the great Beta Band came Django Django, so good they named it twice. Close your eyes though and there’s little difference between the two bands with their kooky electro pop. We don’t go to Heaven much but I quite like it as a venue, not too big and ideally located to get home which is a bonus.
It’s a short sharp set with most of the album played as we bop the night away. It’s all over too quickly and sadly no ‘old’ stuff played as I was really hoping to hear a blast of Dr Baker but hey you can’t have everything.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon although I have now had my first gig of 2021 cancelled so that will take it to a full twelve months at least between gigs.
Support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
