Now I tend to buy t-shirts as a way of supporting the artists. I will typically already own the albums and with touring the main income for musicians now, buying some merchandise helps them directly minus the terrible charges the venues add. I still buy some as souvenirs but that really for festivals such as Glasto. Anyhoo here goes.
As part of my cataloging my gig going experience I made my way into the loft to dig out my early t-shirts with a few going back nearly forty years with my first four gigs featuring here. Back in the day I bought t-shirts as a souvenir of the show. They normally had cool designs with all of the tour dates on the back. There was also an element of showing off to my school mates of my coolness. Given that they were mainly metal bands I am not sure how well that worked. the most annoying thing about going through the old t-shirts is how many were damaged by a dodgy decorator who spilt a whole of paint onto a washing line that had many of them drying.
