After a fab night last night with Caitlin Rose, it’s down in the basement at The Slaughtered Lamb with the wonderful Emily Scott Robinson ably supported by Ann Liu Cannon. Gotta get there early to catch one of the few seats in this tiny room which we did.
First up is Ann Liu Cannon who I saw earlier this year in this room supporting Kassi Valazza and so I knew what to expect. I wasn’t disappointed second time around as we heard tales of London and rabbits all delivered with that beautiful voice to provide us with a lovely thirty minute opening set.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Emily a couple of times on a triple bill tour and then Americana Fest earlier this year but this is her first headlining show in London. She takes the stage and her face immediately lit up by the reception of the crowd and the smile doesn’t leave her face for the next ninety minutes. She is truly humbled and somewhat surprised by the love in the room.
What follows is a truly beautiful evening of great songs, funny and personal stories telling tales of songwriting competitions, beauty pageants, love and loss, all delivered in that wonderful voice.
The set takes in tracks from throughout her career and on a night of constant highs shout out to ‘Double double’ and ‘Magnolia Queen’. The crowd harmonised on a few songs which made Emily’s smile grow even wider. She is later joined by Ann on stage for some lovely harmonies embracing their inner Joni.
One of the best evenings this year in a year of already some great shows
Keep on country rockin’ y’all
