When I first started this little exercise we were a month into lockdown on the 24th April. Like most of you I expected this to last a month or two. The reality now is clear and sadly it will be a full twelve months and probably a lot more between my last gig and the next one. We go again and hopefully this brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
A quick trio of shows today for my look back down memory lane.
2020, Strand of Oaks, Omeara. London
Showalter just gets better and better. From that first intimate gig, literally as we got bear hugged by him afterwards, at the Lexington through his metal phase to now where he has truly found his groove. Chalk this was up as another five star gig for this band. Reviewed here in more detail at the time.
2018, Texas Gentlemen, Bush Hall, London
This bunch of session musicians decided to move front and centre and form their own band and with fine results. A lovely night of grove based country soulful rock reviewed here at the time.
1995, Ron Kavana, the Swan, Stockwell, London
For those who don’t know The Swan was and maybe still is a big Irish pub opposite Stockwell station that around that time had bands on most nights. We went there a few times and tonight’s show is with Mr Kavana born of Irish and American parents. He’s still going but its fair say he hasn’t released any original material for a long, long time.
Nothing particularly outstanding to note or I can remember from the gig itself just good quality Irish folk music and a thoroughly good evening.
Don’t forget, support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
