With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Just a couple of super talented female singer songwriters for my look back trip down memory lane for you down the years.
2018, Courtney Marie Andrews, Union Chapel, London
After a stunning show earlier in the year with her full band it’s a much more low key setting in the Union Chapel solo acoustic. Forgetting the first rule of the Chapel we got there late so were up in the heavens. It didn’t detract from the delicate music but I do like to be up close and personal so to speak. All reviewed here at the time.
2010, Stephanie Finch, Kelley Stoltz
It’s a rare thing tonight, a headline Stephanie Finch show. Usually she is up there supporting hubbie Chuck Prophet but tonight tables are turned with Chuck in the band supporting her promoting solo album ‘Cry Tomorrow’.
Stoltz is also in the backing band but first he runs through an excellent supporting set on his own. A fine purveyor of psych San Franciscan pop, he is funny and engaging and certainly deserved more attention than he gets.
Next up its Stephanie and it’s a funky upbeat affair and has a touch of Sheryl Crow about it. The band are of course excellent and Chuck does his best not to steal the limelight and it’s nice to see Stephanie take the lead and showcase her ample talents. A fine show but I don’t think she has released any more solo albums or headlined since.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon but with the new lockdown my last chance of a gig disappeared this month and I have now had my first gig of 2021 cancelled so that will take it to a full twelve months at least between gigs.
