With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
With October traditionally album release time, ha not this year so much, it’s another busy one with four for today’s trip down memory lane for you down the years.
2019, Tyler Ramsey, Bush Hall, London
Recently departed from the great Band of Horses, Ramsey going out on his own for this low key laid back show at Bush Hall reviewed here at the time.
2017, Jason Isbell, the Roundhouse, London
I could write the same review for any Isbell show. Brilliant is usually the word that comes to mind. Never a fan of the Roundhouse, this was probably as good as it gets and it’s reflected in the review at the time here.
2008, Ian Siegal, the Borderline, London
Siegal is one the best British blues guys out there and whats great about him is his versatility in taking in all sub genres of the blues. Tonight its ‘The Dust’ tour which is a fine album and really suits his deep gravelly voice and showcases his guitar pickin too.
A fine show and it’s always good to catch him whenever he tours.
1993, John Hiatt, the Forum, London
I don’t think I need to write any more about John Hiatt. One of my favourite singer songwriters and this would have been the ‘Perfectly Good Guitar’ tour and of course that album dominates the set but there’s still plenty of room for half of his masterpiece ‘Bring the Family’ and follow up ‘Slow Turning’. It’s the usual high quality show in a venue that we spent most of the nineties in.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon although I have now had my first gig of 2021 cancelled so that will take it to a full twelve months at least between gigs.
Support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
