With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day.
Just the a brief one on this day today
2016 – Calexico, Barbican
Luckily I have my review to fall back on for this gig. Rereading the review I think most of what I said then still holds true. I am ambivalent of the Barbican as a venue. I have seen some good (Iron and Wine is an obvious standout) but some not so good (The Jayhawks) and sadly this one fell into the latter category. Calexico are a great band but the combination of a large high room, not great seats and partially sedated crowd it all just drifted along. There were some standout moments but too few and far between.
That’s it for part two in my trips down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon. Support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all
