With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Just the one today here for my trip down memory lane for you down the years
2002, Tift Merritt, the Borderline, London
I only recently reviewed Tift from June 15th here and there’s little more to add. This was the first time we had seen her on what was probably her first tour of the UK in support of her excellent debut album ‘Bramble Rose’. I do remember when she started 'Trouble over me' which starts with the lyric 'You're not my boyfriend, I don't need a boyfriend' I booed which made her stop the song and laugh so she had to start again.
Her gift is that pure country voice which is outstanding and this is more than backed up by some fine songwriting. Nearly twenty years on her is still producing top quality country folk songs. It’s been a while since we have seen her live and once normality is returned I intend to rectify that.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon. Support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
