When I first started this little exercise we were a month into lockdown on the 24th April. Like most of you I expected this to last a month or two. The reality now is clear and sadly it will be a full twelve months and probably a lot more between my last gig and the next one. We go again and hopefully this brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
So another gig gets cancelled today not rearranged and this is now becoming a trend. I have little to no expectations that the seven gigs booked for March, April and May will happen.
A short and sweet trio today for my look back down memory lane.
2018, Jaime Wyatt, the Borderline, London
A great double bill of US female country with Wyatt headlining and Beth Bombara supporting. A super show to warm and chilly Sunday evening for one of the last gigs at this hallowed venue. All reviewed here at the time.
2015, Honeyblood, Oslo, Hackney, London
It’s a short sharp set of Scottish rock pop with these two tonight on a bitterly cold February evening. Briefly reviewed here at the time for what was my first visit to Oslo. Seen some great shows at this venue since and it gets a thumbs up from me, easy to get to and does decent beer which is a rarity in any London venue.
2011, Clare Maguire, the Borderline, London
Like Lauren Pritchard a few nights before Maguire is on the ones to watch list in 2011. Like Pritchard she hasn’t done much since with one album more than five years ago. A sort of Goth pop it’s a mean and moody set. The potential was there but the music industry is a fickle child and the stars clearly didn’t align to take either of these vocalists to the next level.
Don’t forget, support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
