So night two of four gigs, four different venues and four different bands in five days.
Tonight it’s the wonderful Natalie Bergman, recently married and as we found out pregnant too so double congrats to her. I have been to Lafayette a few times and only tonight did I venture to an upstairs balcony area plus also a small ornate bar to the side of the room that I never knew existed. Very civilised for a music venue.
Two upgrades from its original church settings it must be an almost sold out show tonight as Lafayette was rammed tonight.
The band come on stage bedecked in matching all white outfits looking like an indie ABBA and I guess there are more pronounced similarities with good songs and great harmonies between the four of them. Their angelic look only enhances the religious nature of the many of the songs.
We are then treated to a short sweet set that showcased Bergman’s unique voice beautifully with props to her backing singer for her part in rounding out the vocal sound. Obviously the set is predominantly taken from her debut album ‘Mercy’ and I have to agree with Monster Energy drink Andy that the sound and her voice particularly is definitely a bit softer live than on record. It’s certainly a voice like no other reaching heights that others can only dream of. It certainly provided a different take on Hendrix’s ‘Angel’ tonight too.
It’s all over in a blink and you feel like you have dived into a warm marshmallow of sound that kept us warm all the way home.
Keep on soft sweet soulful rockin’ y’all
