I have review Nile Rodgers a couple of times before and there is nothing new to add to those reviews. A quick summary.
Perform same set they have played every night for the past five years. Check
Repeat the same anecdotes from every set played in the past five years. Check
Name drop everyone you have worked with. Check
Humble brag that you made them the stars they are. Check
Humble brag how brilliant you are. Check.
None of the above is a criticism. This is as slick as show as you will ever see with everything drilled to within an inch of its life. You know all of the songs, you can have a bop and it’s thoroughly enjoyable. But it’s all a bit Vegas for me lacking any spontaneity and a complete contrast to the night before with Fantastic Negrito. But if you've never seen him and you are of a certain age then you must check the show out.
PS. whisper it, the Rodgers trademark dink a dink dink dink guitar riff can be a wearing too. For a one trick pony it’s a great trick but the songs do tend to blur into one.
PPS. Kimberley Davis does have a great voice though.
Still can’t complain. Free tickets courtesy of Sky VIP and two winners and a five minute bus ride home so a good night all round.
Keep on funky rockin’ y’all.
