Sorry just a short, late review of another of a round of 30 years of the Garage celebrations. This time it’s with nineties posters Sleeper who reunited a few years back but apparently this is their first gig at the Garage.
First up though is BERRIES. Expecting something similar to the headliners we were instead treated to a full on rock trio and I have to say most excellent they were.
With the usual early Friday night curfew for club night, Sleeper take to the stage at 8.30 to a rapturous reception. We are straight into Cellophane from their latest album but of course it’s the oldies that get the biggest cheers. There’s a real nineties indie disco feel to the whole night and this is only supplemented with covers of Blondie’s ‘Atomic’ and a cool rendition of Pixies’ ‘Wave of Mutilation’, with the latter band mentioned being one of the influences mentioned in the original advert for the band members that Wener posted.
What more can I say it’s a real feel good gig, the band are excellent with original members supplemented by Kieron Pepper on bass and also a second guitarist and keyboard player, apologies I didn’t catch their names. There's some great stories too and the one about the original 'Imagine' piano getting damaged while they were at George Michael's house was priceless'
It’s one of those nights where the band seem to be enjoying themselves as much as we were. Highlights of course were the usual subjects such as ‘Nice guy Eddie’, ‘Sale of the Century’ and ‘Inbetweener’ but I am not sure my smile left my face for the ninety minutes. Great fun was had by all
Keep on Brit poppin’ y’all
