With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Three of the best for today’s trip down memory lane for you down the years.
2017, the Sadies, Boileroom, Guildford
Lovely gig at our local in Guildford with these guys. Fully reviewed at the time here.
2015, Left Lane Cruiser, Oslo Hackney, London
A balls out southern rock thang with these guys reviewed at the time here.
2013, Graham Parker and the Rumour, Bristol Academy, Bristol
A short break down the M4 to John’s manor to see the great Graham Parker and the Rumour reunited for a run of shows. They recently recorded ‘Three Chords Good’ which whilst doesn’t hit the highs of their early stuff is not a bad effort at all.
Of course it’s a best of set with tracks lifted from their back catalogue and whilst there will always be a favourite track that’s missing they did their best over twenty three songs to cater for everyone’s favourite. But just looking at those opening half a dozen or so songs tells you all you need to know about how good these guys were in the seventies.
They are as tight as ever and my memories can’t help going back to a fantastic show at the original Marquee in ’86. Of course thirty years later none of us has the same energy but they did their very best.
A great show and weekend down in Bristol to boot visiting some of Mr Berry’s old haunts.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon although I have now had my first gig of 2021 cancelled today so that will take it to a full twelve months at least between gigs.
