With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Three today and a couple of real gems for my trip down memory lane for you down the years and it’s a quickie as all have been reviewed before.
2014, Lucius, the Lexington, London
I can’t believe that this one was six years ago. I reviewed this gig on the blog at the time here. This was in the early days of the blog so note rating of the gig. It would have been five stars. A great gig by a top band in a small venue and as seems to the vogue at the Lex they came into the stage for the encore. I have seen them since but they haven’t come close to that night. Pure pop heaven.
2015, Sturgill Simpson, Islington Assembly Hall, London
Another one previously reviewed at the time here. A brilliant show from country maverick Simpson. The band were on fire and rocked liked the proverbial… One of, if not the gig of the year for me and Graham to enjoy.
2017, Lambchop, Islington Assembly Hall, London
Just a short trip down the lane for this gig reviewed at the time here. Birds eye Andy and myself on this Sunday night for an eventful evening to say the least. On top of an explosion, people fainting and an audience member ejection the music was really good too. Super stuff from the master of laconic country.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon. Support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
