With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Just a couple but goodies for today’s trip down memory lane for you down the years.
2017, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Koko, London
A brilliant night with the Burgess Brothers and Andy to see the simply wonderful Alynda Segarra aka Hurray for the Riff Raff. A stunning show and her version Pa’lante on the night was a real hair tingling moment. Fully reviewed at the time here it was certainly one of the gigs of the year in 17.
1983, 10cc, Hammersmith Odeon, London
Wow thirty seven years ago. I went to this gig with an old college friend Ian to see these British popsters back in their heyday. Looking at the setlist all their hits are there and more. The most memorable thing about the gig aside from the music is that it still remains the only time I have seen a fan attack a member of the band. This guy’s ran the full length of the stalls in the Odeon, jumped on the stage and went for one of the band. I know not why and of all the gigs I have been to this would have been in my bottom five bands you would expect any trouble.
Apart from that interlude it was a good show and they essentially broke up the following year.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon although I have now had my first gig of 2021 cancelled today so that will take it to a full twelve months at least between gigs.
