With the country still in the midst of lockdown and no sign of any live music in the foreseeable future if at all this year I thought I would take the opportunity to look back in the archives, sounds posh I know but it’s just an spreadsheet, and revisit gigs I attended on this day down the years. I will keep this going until I can attend my first gig again in person so hopefully this also brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
Just a couple for today’s trip down memory lane for you down the years.
2016, Prophets of Rage, Mandalay Bay Casino, Las Vegas
Gig two of the fiftieth birthday celebrations in the states. This time with Alex who was celebrating his thirtieth in Vegas for this Rage spin off band. An unusual place for a gig, a casino, although the auditorium was probably as big as the floor in Wembley Arena. We also passed Tom Morello on the casino floor before the concert which was weird.
Full details of the gig were reviewed here at the time. Twas a fine end to my birthday week celebrations in the US.
2002, Dolly Varden, Stewboss, the Borderline, London
A great double header for these two excellent bands who are woefully underappreciated and unknown on these shores. Sadly Stewboss are no more and Dolly Varden certainly do not come over very regularly at all.
It’s the usual very sparse crowd for their gigs but both deliver first class sets and give their all regardless of the lack of numbers. Little more to add about these two bands.
That’s it for today’s trip down memory lane. Here’s hoping we can get to some form of normality soon although I have now had my first gig of 2021 cancelled today so that will take it to a full twelve months at least between gigs.
