We have a date 21st June. That means another ten or so gigs that will either be cancelled or postponed some for the third time. So cautious optimism is the watch word here. Given that the summer months are usually a little quieter the autumn could be crazy for gigs if things get back to normal. So with everything crossed let’s hope there is real light at the end of this horribly long tunnel.
When I first started this little exercise we were a month into lockdown on the 24th April. Like most of you I expected this to last a month or two. The reality now is clear and sadly it will be a full twelve months and probably a lot more between my last gig and the next one. We go again and hopefully this brings back memories for my gig going chums who have joined me on this great musical journey down the years.
A couple of corkers today for my look back down memory lane.
2018, Midland, Omeara, London
One of the fringe benefits of the behemoth that is the County 2 Country festival at the O2 is that some of the supporting artists play these smaller shows while they are over here. Tonight was one of those times. Midland both visually and musically on record come across as a fairly traditional country act but live wow they are something else. Yes of course they are country at heart but boy can they rock it up too. And to see them in such an intimate venue too was a real bonus. It’s hot and sweaty, the beer is flowing both on and off stage and the band are on fire. The band are having as much fun as we are. Polished it aint and all the better for it.
A five star gig at the time reviewed here and I hadn’t realised my first time at Omeara and finally a decent venue south of the river that I have been back to many times since.
1993, the Rockingbirds, Mean Fiddler, London
Hey it’s the Rockingbirds, it’s not long after their masterpiece debut album, it’s a rocking (birds) good time with North London’s finest. Nuff said. Never seen a dud show and given it’s into double figures of shows of theirs that’s no mean feat.
That’s it for today so don’t forget, support your small local venues and smaller artists in these difficult times, stay safe and keep on rockin y’all.
