A nice local tonight and there’s not many where I can get the bus from outside my house to outside the venue. A good group of us tonight for this album release show and an absolute bargain at £16 including CD. It probably works out as the best value gig I have been to this year.
It’s a short simple review. A stunning show of top quality folk, rock, Americana or whatever you want to call it with beautiful harmonies and class songs. Of course the new album ‘Palomino’ dominates and on first listen to these songs they are great. But it is those two voices that are there front and centre. The Soderberg sisters have a relaxed on stage persona but when they release those harmonies it’s not difficult to get transported to some far away musical utopia. They complement each other so well and the sound is further fleshed out by guitarist and keyboardist providing some nice backing vocals too.
There’s plenty of time for some old classics such as ‘Emmylou’ and set closer ‘My Silver Lining’ but the new songs more than hold their own with title track and ‘Wild Horses II’ corkers. It’s a perfect sixty minutes and I can’t think of a single thing that would have made it any more enjoyable apart from of course another thirty minutes.
Props to the venue too as the sound is crystal clear, good sight lines and subtle lighting.
A great night and keep on rockin’ y’all
