Coming on the back of an extensive touring schedule and this being the last night of the European tour, Nash’s voice is feeling the effects a little. That is not to detract from his fine falsetto but despite giving his absolute all there are a few small moments of strain.
It’s a small quibble as Nash delivers another tour de force performance filled with heart and soul. I’m pretty sure it’s the same band who backed him last time I saw him and they really drive the songs along with the pedal steel and lead guitarist both providing great harmonies too to compliment Nash perfectly.
The strength for Nash is the sheer quality of the songs and the set tonight deliver equals measure of the new album and ‘Rain Plan’s with the more recent ‘Silver Season’ being largely ignored save for the excellent ‘La Lately’ which is just a dreamy laid back psychedelic tune that lifts you and drops you firmly on a west coast beach looking at the sunset with a long cool drink in one hand and a joint in the other.
After a super set the night is rounded off with a great encore and a rousing rendition of CSNY ‘Ohio’ and Rain Plans rounding off the proceedings. Another high quality gig from Nash who is getting better and better and further demonstration that across the board the live music experience is improving with every artist raising their game.
