Triple bill at Dalton’s Shacklewell Arms tonight. Thameslink of course did their very best to stop us getting to the damned place but we made it.
We missed a lot of opening act Tall Child which was a shame as from the couple of songs we did see they were very good and a lovely voice too. Next up was Flypaper and if you had to choose items to hit my musical spots this band covered it, great songs, twelve string guitar, west coast vibes, a little bit country, a little bit folk, a little bit rock. A very enjoyable set.
Onto Nudista. The core duo of Robbie Carman and Pilar Matji Cabello are joined tonight with bass, drums and keys to flesh out the sound. In keeping with the general persona of the band it’s a low key set that draws tracks from their debut EP, a bunch of new songs yet to be released and also the new single ‘Different Eyes’.
The delicate nature of most of these sad songs is evident but the addition of the band brings the sound to life delivering a wider soundscape as much as you can at the back of a pub. Self-effacing between songs, Pilar is an entrancing singer and you are drawn into her voice and deserves your full attention, so much so I didn’t hear any of the usual annoying chatter among pockets of nearly every audience.
A lovely set which ends in celebration of their excellent new single as mentioned above
Keep on folkie pop rockin’ y’all
