Pete ambles on to a low key reception but soon wakes the crowd up with three songs old and new with just his acoustic as support. He is soon joined by the other two and we are treated to three fine musicians at the top of their game just kicking back and easing through eighty minutes of fine songs.
The setlist is pulled from across Pete’s catalogue with a couple of new songs for good measure. Bruntnell is one of England’s finest songwriters and his songs lend themselves to many interpretations be it electric, solo acoustic or as an intimate trio tonight. The format tonight works really well with Danny and BJ subtle support for Pete’s lead.
Highlights for me are the oldies from ‘Played Out’; ‘Here comes the swells’ and ‘By the time my head gets to Phoenix’.
At one stage Pete asks the crowd what they think of the new Borderline. With an indifferent response from the crowd I think he sums it up well with, ‘its shit isn’t it’. I have mentioned before that the refurb has made this a better venue from a facilities view point but it’s soulless and has lost all of its history and character.
A great night and no doubt see you next time Pete.
Till the next time, keep on rockin y’all
