Opening up was Frankie Davis who tried a little too hard for me with her helium, one pitched screech. There was no light and shade which was a shame as there were some decent songs in there that just needed a little control vocally.
Onto the main act. Maddie and Tae are two very young singer songwriters giving us their insight as life as twenty somethings. It’s a very slick full on country show and they are supported by a talented backing back providing the just the right mix of technical ability and showmanship without overshadowing the girls.
They storm through the evening playing nearly twenty songs coming from their debut album the fine ‘Start Here’ and their soon to be released new album. On first listen the new songs are excellent and their song writing has definitely matured even at 22.
The crowd are really up for this tonight with all of the old songs met with the appropriate whoops and hollers and word perfect sing backs to the band. It’s as if the words were being projected on a screen behind the band. There is much love in the room and the band seemed genuinely excited to be here and playing these songs.
It’s a hugely enjoyable night and these are super talented songwriters for ones so young. If I had one minor gripe it was that it lacked a little edge to the polish but I guess their market is more aimed at the country pop crossover than the Isbell, Sturgill one. Still a great night.
Keep on country rockin’ y’all.
