Sadly, like my horse in the last race it was a disappointing showing. Like my horse the show lacked pace, stamina and rhythm. It was a stop start show with large spells of nothing really. The sound wasn’t great but our attention often wandered to other things, be it grown men wearing women’s pants or just shiny bits of paper.
The hits were the hits (and I thought he had more than the five we all know) and these were interspersed throughout the set but the bits in between seemed like an excuse for Tom’s excellent band to show off a bit.
It was a dial in performance that lacked any real passion or atmosphere and left me wishing we’d left earlier for a nice meal or few beers after the horses finished.
It’s a shame really and outside of his hard core female fans down the front I don’t think the vast majority can hand on their heart say it was great gig. For me it will get filed quickly in the worst along with Eddi Reader, Marc Olson and Victoria Williams and Jackie Leven.
Onto to the next and keep on rockin’ y’all
