Moreland and Arbuckle are a three piece band from Kansas formed by Dustin Arbuckle on harp, bass and vocals and Aaron Moreland on guitar. They are ably assisted by Kendall Newby on sticks. We last saw M&A at the end of Worthing pier a couple of years ago and so we look forward to tonight in this very different setting.
It’s a small but appreciative audience and the set tonight is taken largely from their excellent album last year ‘Promised Land or Bust’. Moreland is an understated guitarist and switches effortlessly from his cigar box to Gibson electric but really let’s go towards the end of the set throwing some shapes on the stage.
His blues brother in arm Arbuckle is one of the finest blue rock harp players around and has a great earthy blues voice to match. We are treated to 75 minutes of classic old school blues. Setup on the stage is minimal and that’s fine as the music is what matters here tonight. The small dancefloor fills up and the crowd gets into the groove but it’s all over too soon. After passionate calling from the crowd they come back for one of their live highlights, ‘Hey Mona’ and then we’re done.
If you like blues then these guys are a must see. Spread the word.
Keep on rockin y’all
