It’s been a very long time since we last saw Malin live and I have no idea why that is. Having been a fan since his debut solo album ‘The Fine Art of Self Destruction’ from 2002 we have probably only caught him live a couple of times. Clearly we have been missing a treat.
An enigmatic performer he is full of great stories, jokes, wisecracks, witty asides and this in between song banter is as much part of the show as the songs. Given the extended slot the songs are grabbed from across his whole back catalogue, a couple of covers and new one off the forthcoming album. Sadly I didn’t catch the name of the guy who accompanied him on stage providing backing vocals, additional guitars and keys but he complemented Jesse well throughout.
It was nice to hear some oldies especially ‘Brooklyn’ and ‘Wendy’ from the aforementioned debut and we certainly won’t be leaving it as long before we see him again. Not the night we expected but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.
Until the next time keep on rockin y’all
